The Tree Says Nothing?

A Lonely Tree at the Base of Slemish Mountain, Co. Antrim

The Tree Says Nothing?

The tree says nothing.

It waves gently,

dancing in the breeze.

Telling a story,

for all who care to listen.

Years of sun and rain,

snow and hail,

recorded in rings.

Telling a story,

for all who care to listen.

Diurnal rhythms,

season after season,

leaves develop, die and fall.

Telling a story,

for all who care to listen.

Silhouetted in the moonlit nights,

glorious technicolour in daylight,

Proud and upright.

Telling a story,

for all who care to listen.

A place of shelter,

an ecosystem in its own right,

home to insects and birds.

Telling a story,

for all who care to listen.

Despite all this activity,

the tree just is what it is,

it has no worries.

Telling a story,

For all who care to listen.

It cares not about the past, present or future,

It just is.

There is wisdom in that tree.

Telling a story,

for all who care to listen.

And me?

Rushing around, making plans,

Incessant chatter.

Telling a story,

for all who care to listen.

Trying to impress,

desperate to achieve,

always on the move.

Telling a story,

For all who care to listen.

The tree says nothing,

It just is what it is,

God looks on.

Telling His story,

for all who care to listen.
