Visualizing Bipolar Disorder…Part 3

Here are two pieces I’ve completed recently – the first is called the ‘bipolar man’ and the second is called ‘normality’.

The former represents a distorted face; this distortion is a mirror of the inner distortion (i.e. of the mood) that is characteristic of bipolar disorder.

The latter expresses the order and hope (via the bright colours) that accompanies a stable mood; in both hypomanic and depressive mood states, order is absent and hope is distorted (i.e. it is largely absent when the mood is depressed and over-represented when the mood is manic).

I hope this makes some sense!
